Project Overview
The former Benedictine monastery in Rheinau was comprehensively renovated and transformed into a music residence for musicians of diverse backgrounds and musical styles. The project aimed to combine historic architecture with contemporary requirements for rehearsal, living and performance spaces.

Acoustic and Artistic Concept
Fixed and movable acoustic installations for the music hall were developed by Kahle Acoustics in Brussels. A central highlight is the art project “Suprematistisches Stickwerk” by Swiss artist Beat Zoderer. Embroidered textiles were mounted onto reflective and absorptive acoustic elements, merging artistic expression with acoustic performance.

Textile Implementation
Along the windows, the transparent acoustic curtain STREAMER classic by Annette Douglas Textiles ACOUSTICS® was installed as a movable sound absorber. Annette Douglas was responsible for the production and implementation of both the embroidered wall installations and the curtains within the music hall. The translucent textiles allow natural daylight to flow into the space while contributing to balanced room acoustics.

Impact
Feedback from musicians has been consistently positive, highlighting the combination of natural daylight and excellent acoustic conditions during rehearsals.

Architectural Impact
The project demonstrates how textile design, art and acoustics can interact within historic architecture to create contemporary spaces for music and creative work.
