Project Type: Textile design / collection
Client: PFISTER, Atelier Pfister
Design: Annette Douglas
Curator: Alfredo Häberli
Project Overview
The Atelier Pfister Collection is exclusively designed by established and emerging Swiss designers and curated by internationally renowned Swiss designer Alfredo Häberli. Annette Douglas has been a contributing designer to the collection since 2010. Her work for Atelier Pfister reflects a commitment to combining high-quality materials with refined design, aiming to enhance everyday living through thoughtful textile design.
Inspiration and Design
Paper is a recurring source of inspiration in Annette Douglas’ work — its ability to fold, bend, crease, cut and transform, as well as the quiet beauty of a simple white sheet. For the Atelier Pfister Collection 2011, she translated conventional paper techniques into textile processes. Material studies and craft-based experimentation resulted in fabrics that reinterpret structure, movement and surface within a textile context.
Production and Identity
The collection is produced primarily in Switzerland, connecting contemporary design with local manufacturing traditions. The names of the designs reference places in the home cantons of the participating designers, creating a distinct Swiss identity. The fabrics are titled like «Höngg», «Ringwil», «Rüschlikon», «Kyburg», «Berg», «Sommerau» and «Weisslingen».
Design Impact
The collection demonstrates how textile design can unite material research, craftsmanship and cultural identity, resulting in timeless fabrics defined by subtle depth and refined character.
