Project Overview
The striking building complex «The Circle» at Zurich Airport, designed by Japanese architect Riken Yamamoto, is one of Switzerland’s largest construction projects. With approximately 180,000 m² of floor space, the development combines hotels, a convention centre, retail areas and spaces dedicated to culture, gastronomy, education and health, forming an international gateway at the airport. Within the complex, Flughafen Zürich AG established its new headquarters, or “Homebase,” providing around 600 employees with a contemporary workplace environment across five floors.

Workplace Concept
Reflecting evolving work cultures, the office design moves away from fixed desk structures toward flexible working environments. Creative co-working areas, meeting zones and lounge spaces support collaboration, exchange and adaptable working formats.

Textile Concept
In collaboration with TeamH12, Annette Douglas developed the textile concept for the new workplace environment. A custom-designed multicolour stripe named «Airport» was created for the meeting rooms, featuring a woven repeat of 7.5 metres — the longest stripe repeat ever produced. Woven on a dobby loom, the textile combines solid and mixed weft colours aligned with the vibrant interior colour concept. In the hub areas, the transparent acoustic curtain STREAMER pro absorbs sound and structures co-working spaces along the curved façade, functioning as a spatial divider while maintaining openness and visual continuity.

Architectural Impact
The project demonstrates how textile design can support contemporary workplace architecture by connecting colour, movement and spatial organisation within large-scale environments.
