Project Overview
For the University of Zurich, Annette Douglas Textiles developed customized printed acoustic curtains for the bistro and lounge areas of the new university BIM project in Zurich-Oerlikon. In collaboration with graphic designer Thomas Lehmann, the textile solution combines acoustic performance with a distinctive visual identity tailored to the architectural concept.

Acoustic Challenge
Open bistro and lounge areas are lively spaces where communication, movement and hard architectural surfaces can lead to increased reverberation and background noise. The challenge was to improve acoustic comfort while maintaining the open character of the interior and creating a welcoming atmosphere along the large window façade.

Acoustic Solution
Annette Douglas Textiles developed customized acoustic curtains using the CLOUD quality. Positioned along the window front, the curtains provide effective acoustic absorption while adding softness and atmosphere to the interior.

The graphic concept was created by Thomas Lehmann, using the University of Zurich’s visual identity as a central design element. The distinctive “UZH” lettering was translated into a large-scale textile graphic with a subtle gradient, transforming the acoustic curtains into an integral part of the interior architecture.
