Project Overview
The Kerenzerberg Sports Centre in Filzbach, Canton of Glarus, is located on a terrace above the southern shore of Lake Walen at an altitude of 700 meters. The centre provides extensive training and educational facilities for sports clubs and associations. With an area of approximately 130,000 m², the Kerenzerberg Sports Centre is one of the largest sports facilities in Switzerland, offering multiple sports halls, fitness and weight rooms, climbing walls, an indoor swimming pool and outdoor sports fields.
Acoustic Challenge
Training and seminar spaces require balanced acoustics to support communication, concentration and group activities. Large rooms with hard surfaces can create reverberation and reduced speech intelligibility, while visual atmosphere and spatial identity remain important elements of the architectural concept.
Acoustic Solution
In collaboration with Burkard Meyer Architects and the Zurich cantonal building authorities, Annette Douglas Textiles developed a curtain concept tailored to the training and seminar rooms. Inspired by the dynamic character of sport, colourful acoustic curtains were introduced as functional spatial elements. The translucent textile STREAMER pro allows natural daylight to flood the space while improving room acoustics and maintaining visual openness. Coordinated colour schemes aligned with the floor surfaces contribute to the interior identity, while the acoustic curtains provide effective sound absorption, enhanced speech intelligibility, as well as privacy and glare protection. The textiles are flame-retardant, fulfilling stringent safety standards required for public buildings.
Application
- translucent acoustic textile STREAMER pro
- developed for training and seminar environments
- coordinated colour concept integrated into interior design
- improves speech intelligibility and acoustic comfort
- provides privacy and glare protection
- seamless integration into the architectural concept
Architectural Impact
The project demonstrates how textile acoustic solutions can combine functional performance with spatial identity, continuing natural daylight flooding the space, creating vibrant and adaptable environments that support both athletic training and educational activities.
Textile acoustic solutions by Annette Douglas Textiles enhance room acoustics, meet flame-retardant safety standards, and preserve architectural transparency and design intent.
