Designing Customized Acoustics for a Reused Building

acoustic curtain STREAMER pro and SOUNDdimmer

In Reinach near Basel, the architects at Burckhardt Partner transformed a former office building into a contemporary music school for the Municipality of Reinach. The conversion and refurbishment followed a clear guiding principle: minimal structural intervention combined with maximum reuse of renewable, recycled, and existing materials and building components.

Annette Douglas Textiles was responsible for the acoustic curtain solutions throughout the building. The project features a customized solution with SOUNDdimmer acoustic curtains in both plain and striped printed versions, complemented by STREAMER pro in additional rooms. Across four floors, a variety of teaching, rehearsal, and communal spaces were equipped with tailored acoustic solutions.

The acoustic curtains significantly enhance the room acoustics while also contributing to the overall atmosphere and visual identity of the spaces. They support focused learning, musical rehearsal, and creative exchange, integrating seamlessly into the architectural concept.

An inspiring project in which architecture, reuse, acoustics, and music come together in a cohesive and sustainable way.
